TRIP TO SAN DIEGO TO SEE THE CARL MOODY FAMILY & BYU VS. SDSU- JAN. 23-25, 2009.

Here's some fun hills we saw from the park, that people do a lot of dirt bike riding on.
The next morning we went to a park near their home so the boys could play on their scooters, play with a soccer ball & also on the playground equipment. I got lots of video clips that I will post below, but not any good snapshots. Carl also played some football with his buddies. Here's Jay & Chantel watching the boys. Chantel is due any day with her 3rd boy. We saw some rabbits & a squirrel around their home place. Carl went with Jay & I to Coriann's game at 2:00 p.m., which was a sad ugly loss. We got some little Ceasar's pizza & came back & watched more basketball. After church the next morning, Jay & I caught our plane back to Salt Lake. We got to the house in Orem around 9 p.m., after a delayed flight & a bumpy ride, because of snow.

Jay & I flew on Jet Blue to San Diego, found a place to get some books for the boys & met Carl, Chantel, Crew, & Jax at Applebee's for dinner. After coming back to their cozy, sort of in the country home, on the outskirts of Temecula, we talked until about 11:30 p.m.

DROVE TO ST. GEORGE & VISITED AUNT PEARL & TOOK SCOTT TO SEE BYU BEAT UNLV- 67-62, ON JAN. 21, 2009.

   We always have a great time visiting with Aunt Pearl & listening to all of her fun stories about her life and family, including my Dad, Ray, who is her brother.

Aunt Pearl & her husband, Evan Asay (Uncle Tom)who passed away several years ago. Her daughter, Kathy, & her sons, Charles & Jay Hampton.

TRIP TO DALLAS/FORT WORTH, TEXAS & THE BYU VS. TCU GAME- Jan. 13-14, 2009

These next two shots are ariel views as we are leaving the airport & flying over Dallas.
Here we are ready to leave on Southwest airlines from the Dallas/Fort Worth airport back to Salt Lake City. We enjoyed our quick visit to Texas & hope to come again & maybe stay a little longer. Blair says the people in Texas are great...lots of southern hospitality, good morals & conversative values. Parents here really do want what is best for their kids.
On Jan. 14th as we were leaving for the airport, I got a picture of the Dallas Cowboys arena. I believe they are in the process of building a new one.
This plaque was put in the spot next to the road where the assissination took place, to designate it as a National Historic Landmark at Dealey Plaza.
Next Blair took us to where President John F. Kennedy was assassinated here in Dallas in 1963. I remember that day very well. I was in the 3rd grade in Mrs. Johnson's class & out for lunch recess on the playground in Lovell, WYO. Some girls came out yelling, Yeh, the President's been shot! I thought to myself, "What President?" After going back to class, the principal announced the news & our teacher started crying & school was let out for the rest of the day. Then we watched the replay of the event on TV, over & over for days, it seemed. Lee Harvey Oswald was in the upper corner room of this Library with his shotgun & shot Pres. Kennedy from behind as he came around this corner riding in a convertible with his wife, Jackie, at his side, ready to go under an underpass. Oswald was later shot by as he was being taken into jail.
There were some amazing bronze horse statues all over the courtyard of these buildings.
This is the area in Dallas in which Blair has his accounting firm. He has some wealthy oil barons as some of his clients, so he has been doing quite well over the years. This year has been of big concern though, with the recession & problems in the oil industry.

After the game, we went to IHOP to celebrate. The girls were quite hyper & loud, but I suppose they have a right to be when they came from a big win vs. TCU. Pictured from left to right are Dani, Haley, Jenteel, Keilani, Kristin, & Coriann.

There were some really neat monuments made to represent the day of the big cattle drives.
Billy Bob's Saloon or bar is supposed to be the biggest in the world, I believe. It's quite a place if you're into that type of lifestyle.

This is Jay's & my first time to set foot on Texas soil. We have flown into airports before, but that's it. Here we are in old town Fort worth. It's full of cowboys with big hats, guns, the whole nine yards. I was trying to get pictures as we were driving, hence the blurriness. Jay's good friend, Blair Dance, originally from Blackfoot, ID, where he was good friends with Jay, & then also in college, came & picked us up at our motel in his BMW & showed us around a little,before we headed to the game at TCU.

SETH & JANICA'S 1ST APT. & SETH'S CITY LEAGUE BASKETBALL GAME- Jan. 12, 2009

Here's their bedroom with the temple quilt I made them for their wedding on the bed, which was an air mattress for a couple of months until they got a real bed.
Here's their Ellsworth sign (that I made them for Christmas), which has Established in 2008 in tan over the Ellsworth. They wanted to put 'population 2' on it, but we couldn't figure out how to make it look right.

We woke up Mon. morning Jan. 5th to more snow, then the sun came out to make it look like a winter wonderland. Jan. 9th, Jay & I left to go back to Utah to make the BYU vs. CSU game on Sat., the 10th.

QUICK TRIP TO PORTLAND-BYU BEAT UNIVERSITY OF PORTLAND-Jan. 3, 2009

Fri. night Jan. 2nd, Jay & I attended a nice wedding reception in the Columbia Basin church for Ryan & Sarah Davidson Davis. I can't believe I didn't get any pictures...I thought for sure I took some. That's not like me. The next morning we left for Portland about 8:30 a.m. or so to drive the about 4 1/2 hrs. for Coriann's game, which they handily beat 65-37. Cori played 16 min., had 5 points, 4 rebounds, a steal & an assist, which I have proof of in the video clip below. It seems that the stat keepers sometimes miss these for Coriann.

We left shortly after the game to drive back home, so it made for quite a long day. As we were leaving I got a couple of good shots of Portland & the bridge & one of Mt. Hood.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!-Jan. 1, 2009

We thought that both Basin City wards had planned a New Year's party together, but when we got there we realized it was just 1st ward's party, but we ate their food & stayed & watched some of their great entertainment which included Scot & Tamlee McGary doing this fun little skit as they are getting ready to go out somewhere. There's a video clip below. I meant to get a snapshot of this incredible painting of Bishop Davidson that was done upside down in a few short minutes by Sarah Montierth husband, as we were all watching. I ended up with a 2 second video clip, which is posted below. Bishop Davidson & Nolan Empey sang some cowboy/Indian/bear song, but my picture is too dark to post. After the fun program, we headed back home for the countdown on TV, to hail in the NEW YEAR, & kissed our sweethearts & sipped some sparkling apple cider.

OUR DIFFICULT TIME GETTING TO CORIANN'S BYU GAME VS. ARKANSAS- Dec.30, 2008

Both Jay & I and Seth's parents, Scott & Annalisa Ellsworth were supposed to leave from Spokane to Salt Lake today, Mon. Dec. 29th. Our flights were cancelled due to the weather, so we weren't sure what to do. We finally got flights at 6:15 am. on Tues. the 30th & so we road together to Spokane, hoping the roads wouldn't be too bad to get there. They were quite snowy with ice, but we managed okay. Janica & Seth stayed at our home until we got back up Wed. the 31st, so that we could celebrate the new year together.

I felt bad for Scott & Annalisa, because it was their anniversary the day we were stranded, so I made them a nice candlelight dinner with our china & gave them the 'Letters of Joseph & Emma' book that came out this year.

Coriann had a successful game on Tues. the 30th, which is also my father, Ray Moody's birthday. He's been gone since June 16, 1966. He would be turning 91 if he were still alive. Cori's team beat Arkansa, 49-39 & she played 20 min., had 7 pts., 6 rebounds, & 3-3 foul shots.

Since I didn't get any pictures, I am going to post pictures of her teams posters. The first one above is from last year her freshman year & the second one is this year, her sophomore year.

JANICA & SETH'S RECEPTION IN BASIN CITY, WA- Dec. 27, 2008

The end has come, time for the shoes to come off of the sore feet & be put away & become a reminder & memory of a wonderful occasion, never to be forgotten. The planning, the shopping, the creating, sewing, decorating...all the hardwork has paid off for two beautiful days & evenings of celebration with wonderful family & friends. It's wonderful to have this blog to document it all & be able to revisit all the fun pictures to help us replay every moment in our minds.
As we are cleaning up & putting things away, Coriann has to take time to pop the bubble wrap with Kiana Holst. Coriann knows how to have fun...I hope she never forgets when she has her own children. You can see Cori's scraped knee from a tough basketball game.
Who wants some fisheys to take home...we sure don't want them all.
Time to gather the gifts & have another Christmas-like celebration, as they are opened. Many thanks to those who are helping Janica & Seth with things to set up their home.
   Another memorable time for the Ellsworth family as they are working on their life together, forever.
Time to carefully put away all of the special pictures & artwork.
   Time to say goodbye to the photographer.

   They seem so happy & perfect for each other.

This is when we were playing with the lights to get the right effect & ambiance for the reception.
The Salt Lake temple quilt I made with the help of sisters in the ward, & the picture displays are to the left of the guestbook & opposite from the cake & food tables. to the left of this in the corner was a big screen TV with a slideshow of pictures from dating & the wedding being played.
The guestbook table is to the left of the gift table & there is a little fountain with pink rocks, & a battery candle. A double white lamp post is to the left of this.
This is the gift bench, which is to the left of the stage. The white basket is for cards. I got most of my fabric, ribbon & tulle from JoAnn's & Walmart.
This is the stage which is to the left of the food tables & directly across the gym from the backdrop. Lights were wrapped up in the bottom of the green tulle which is resting on the stage.
This is the chocolate candy table as it is being set up, not everything is on it yet.
To the left of the cake, is Kathi Eppich's serpentine table. We don't have everything on it as yet, in this pic., but we served tomato basil, clam chowder, & vegetable beef soups, rolls, a green pistachio salad, a pink strawberry salad, a vege tray with carrots, celery, broccoli, cucumbers, olives, pickled asparagus, etc. Dessert was suicide chocolate, mint choc. chip, & strawberry icecream flavors, assorted chocolates from our Country Mercantile store, & hot chocolate, & lemon water to drink.
The flowers were all made by Annalisa, Shandiin S. made the three layer cake, strawberry with cream cheese filling. The Salt Lake Temple was machine embroidered by Doris S. & I filled in some stitches & gold angel Moroni, by hand. I added the pink & white daisies & the mat & frame.
To make up this garden scene which is to the left of the backdrop below, I brought the white wicker furniture from our gazebo at home. The white fountain & lamp post was rented, & the follage was some from our home, Lana Nielson, & the church.
Kathi Eppich did a beautiful job of setting up the backdrop curtain & lights, & greenery. We rented the column pieces, & urns form Sun rental in Kennewick. I had the glass vases & purchased the huge light pink gerbera daisies, & the medium-sized white & dark pink ones.
Janica really wanted a false ceiling look & I was really worried as to how we were going to pull it off, but it actually ended up looking pretty good, thanks to lots of people helping out.

Scott & Annalisa are doing some finishing touches with the lanterns, & some of the Empey's who also helped are sitting at a table, with their backs to the camera.

Seth's parent's flew into Spokane on the afternoon of Dec. 26th, so Seth & Janica drove the 2 hrs. to go & pick them up. I went into town to pick up last minute items & food for the reception. Later in the evening Jay & I attended a reception for Severin & Haley Wells Bergeson. On Sat. morning, Dec. 27th, the seven of us (Seth, Janica, Coriann, Scott, Annalisa, Jay & I) packed up stuff to take to the church to decorate. We met several ward members who were ready & willing to help us set up things & decorate. We started around 9 a.m. and the last of us left the church around 3 p.m. It sure was nice to have a lot of helping hands, since we didn't have family there to help us, other than the seven I mentioned. We also were concerned because the weather was horrible with icy, slick roads & there had also been a basketball tournament in Yakima, I believe.

This is a picture of the table centerpieces. The bowls had a big pink daisy & 3 smaller white ones, later on a light was put underneath to shine up through the bowl, which was set on some green floral foam, in some live wheat grass, which I grew for about 11-12 days in a green flower pot saucer, which is resting on a 12" square mirror. The round tables were covered with a moss green cloth, a brown runner, which I made, & a wide pink ribbon.

CHRISTMAS EVE & DAY AT THE J. WOOD HOME IN BASIN CITY, WA- Dec. 24-25, 2008

Along with the turkey, we enjoyed mashed potatoes & gravy, dressing, sweet potatoes, broccoli & cheese, sweet potatoes, mixed fruit salad, & homemade bread that Susan Hawkins made...and of course sparkling apple cider to drink, in goblets. Even though we were short on numbers this year, we still enjoyed our nice relaxing time together.

This was after our traditional puzzle contest that we started a couple of years ago. Janica won the $10 prize. Seth gave her a hard time, thinking she had an easier puzzle, but Janica is normally really good at putting puzzles together.

We are opening our presents on Christmas day. Janica is trying on a pearl bracelet that she recieved from Dad & I, from Hawaii. Coriann & Seth are looking on.
Here's my patriotic santas, my music box nativity, & a new Disney Christmas tree that rotates & has a little train that goes around it, as it plays Christmas carols.
Here's my outside Nativity which often has straw bales around it for effect & a big star on our entry column. Jay got out the lighted sleigh (but never plugged in the lights), & did not get out the reindeer that go with it & the sign that says, "Santa's loading zone".
These next snow pictures were actually taken on Jan. 2nd, but I decided to include them in the Christmas series.
On the couch table in the family room are my bear santa & a sleigh full of toys & gifts with the paper mache? reindeer that I painted a few years ago. There is also a pillow & wooden star candle holders that I made, that are in this picture. Some 'Willow Tree' figurines are also displayed.
Here's later when I did put my nativity picture under the village.
This village set is on the ledge between the dining & family rooms. It was made by Vicki Solbrack about 18 years ago. I added pieces over the course of a couple three years. There is another little 'Precious Moments' nativity on display with this village. Another thing I really love is minature things of all kinds. I usually have had a framed nativity picture below this village, but the one that is there, is of Coriann jumping for the ball at the beginning of a game at state basketball in Yakima, of her Senior Year. Her Connell High School team ended up getting 3rd at State, & Coriann was MVP of the tournament.
This is the nativity which is on the piano. I painted this ceramic set with gold & an antiquing black type rub, many years ago in Relief Society.
This display is in our entry on a little accent table in front of a mirror. It is my 'Precious Moments' nativity along with 2 other minature ones & some other ornaments that normally have gone on the tree. I have loved 'Precious Moments' figurines since I was a teenager, I think. I know it's been years & years. I have a curio cabinet which has several of them in it.

I tried to simply my tree more than usual this year because of the wedding etc., & I think I've decided to keep it more simple every year. I guess we'll see. I also simplied many of my decorations from what I would normally do. I just put a nativity on the piano in the background, which usually has a village on it.

On Christmas Eve, we did some baking & made my traditional Cinnamon Crumb Cakes to take to our neighbors. We added some hot chocolate or spiced apple cider packets & candies, to put with them. After we went caroling, & had some carolers who came to us, we ate some of our rolls, bread, jam, cider, tamales, & other treats that were given to us. We added some soup & hot chocolate to warm us up. We watched "The Nativity" movie & read about the birth of the Saviour. Then we opened our traditional p.j.s (which were robes this year) as pictured above, & opened a couple of presents given to us by some friends.

BYU WOMEN BEAT LONG BEACH & CORIANN GETS STRANDED IN CA- Dec. 20, 2008Dec. 20, 2008

I don't have a picture of this game or Coriann & two of her teammates who ended up stranded in Los Angeles for a couple of days because of the weather & so they spent that time with her brother, Nate, & his friends. Maybe I can find a picture from Cori to post sometime. The three of them (Coriann, Stephanie, & Jazmine) finally found flights to Salt Lake, but had a hard time getting a flight to Seattle or Portland. Coriann finally got the last seat on a flight to Seattle arriving on the early morning of the 23rd of Dec. Jay drove the 3+ hrs. to pick her up there. Stephanie & Jazmine never did get a flight home for Christmas. I felt really bad for them!

BYU beat Long Beach 66-49 & Coriann played 18 minutes. She scored 10 points, had 5 rebounds & 2 blocked shots. This is the first game Jay & I have missed this season & that was because we really needed to be home to prepare for Christmas & the reception for Janica & Seth.

SUNDAY FAMILY TIME- Dec. 14, 2008

After two overtimes, BYU pulled it off with a 61-60 win. Coriann came to bat again when she made both of her foul shots which helped to seal the win as Cassie made the final layup in the final seconds. There was .1 left on the clock that Utah State insisted on playing out.

This is a blurry shot, but in the final seconds of the game, Coriann made an exciting 3-point shot which put us into overtime. No one up to this point was able to even make a 3-pointer. It was quite embarrassing, but Cori was put on the spot & made the decisive 3-point shot that really mattered. The 3-pointer in this picture isn't the one, it was made from the center.

The BYU men have been doing quite well. They smoked Boise 94-56 & this is their 11th win in a row. Chris Miles # 54, is waiting for the rebound. The other four on the floor are, Lee Cumard #30, Jimmer Fredette #32, Jackson Emery #4, & Jonathan Taverneri #45.

Kali enjoyed talking to Santa & telling him what she wanted & then getting a candy cane treat. Krew is at that age where Santa is pretty scarey, instead of a jolly old man who brings presents. Jay & I thoroughly enjoyed our visit...lots of fun memories with our grandchildren who live in Hawaii. There's no better excuse to visit this tropical paradise, than to see our family there!

Shanae & I finished getting her family board painted & the vinyl lettering on it & then put up on her wall, but the sticky stuff didn't hold it well enough & it scared us to death by falling down in the night. WE ARE ONE HAPPY ETERNAL FAMILY!
After the game, we drove Coriann over to the Turtle Bay Resort, where the team is staying. They have their entrance all decorated for Christmas, so I had to get a picture.

HAWAII-CLIMBING THE MOUNTAINS BEHIND LAIE- 12/4/08

   Back to the more tropical looking foilage at the end of our hike. We even saw a fern growing out of the top of a dead tree stump which was interesting. There's a quick video pic. of it below. Our hike took us about 3 1/2 hrs. or so. We're now ready for a swim in the ocean.

  You can see quite a bit of the town of Laie below next to the ocean. Notice the red dirt.

After hiking about 2 hrs., we decided to take a break here. We were too hot & tired to go further. Jay & Nate with the beautiful mountains in the background.

   We also saw various wild flowers. Here's a beautiful orchid.
  We came across some wild cherry trees which were of interest to us, since we have cherry orchards on our farm back in Basin City, WA.

We went through some places that had heavy foilage with a narrow trail & then others that were quite open. We also went through some areas that were quite muddy with that red dirt that doesn't wash out of things very well.

   I believe these are banana trees.

The next couple of pictures I'm not sure what is being grown, but this plant needs poles.

We walked past some farm areas. There's even a tractor & a pickup out in this field.

HAWAII- TURTLE BAY & THE POLYNESIAN CULTURAL CENTER-Dec. 2-3, 2008

Jay, Nate, & I drove about an hour from Laie, to our condo in Honolulu... and called it a night after having a great day at the beach & PCC for the Luau & night show. Here we are walking to the elevator passed the beautiful poinsettias.
Bath time fun...got to get the sand out of all the nooks & crannies & the hair. Kali is enjoying a candy cane while getting clean. They both really love the water. It's a good thing since they live in Hawaii. I'm sure it helps that Aaron & Shanae introduced them to the ocean almost from the day they were born.
After the beach, we headed to get some shrimp & rice here at the famous Giovanni's shrimp shack... great stuff! Shanae & Krew are posing by the fence where we signed our autograph.

Uncle Benny was amazing with the Ukulele. He could play between his legs, behind his back & every which way. He also has an amazing voice & can imitate many singers such as Tiny Tim, Elvis Presley, Ray Charles?, etc.

Wed. Dec. 3rd, we went to the Polynesian Cultural Center & had a great time with Uncle Benny at the Ali'i Luau. He treated us like VIP & we sat right up front. This is the barbecued pig that was just taken out of the pit. Of course it was very delicious.

After Jay, Nate, & I arrived in Honolulu, Tues. Dec. 2nd, we went to our Fairway Villa condo. This is the Christmas tree that was set up in the foyer area.

This sack has 'Love' written in Chinese. We had an exchange student, Carol (Chui Yuk) Chan who we consider our Chinese daughter. Also, our daughter, Janica, went to teach English in China for four months.
This sack luminary said, 'Merry Christmas' in the Cherokee Indian language. Jay & I both have Cherokee ancestry. These paper sacks had words written from many languages from around the world.
Many of these metal can luminaries lined the walking paths all around. They all depicted different scenes of the nativity, shepherds, wisemen, angels, etc.

We brought some of our wonderful Country Mercantile chocalates with us from WA. Here are the Chocolate Caramel Cashews & the Chocolate Carmel covered pretzels.

This is an artificial bridal bouquet that Janica used to throw to all eligible young women (another tradition). Janica had one like this at the temple & then for this reception she had real daisies for her bouquet & a matching boutonniere for Seth. Annalisa did a great job in making all of the artificial bouquets, corsages & boutonnieres!
Seth's mother, Annalisa Ellsworth, made this beautiful wedding cake. The two bottom layers were rice crispy treats & the top layer was actually strawberry cake, I believe. They had to have cake for their 1st anniversary celebration (tradition). Brown & green ribbon are wrapped around each layer. Another enlarged picture of Seth & Janica, that we quickly developed from the wedding is on display on the cake table.
In another corner of the gym was this wedding picuture of Seth & Janica in front of the Salt Lake Temple doors, that we had enlarged from that morning.
This is the guest book table with a little candle water fountain, surrounded by daisies. The Salt Lake Temple is embroidered with 'Ellsworth Family' & the date, Nov. 29, 2008. The guest book is filled with fun dating & engagement pictures & places for people to sign on opposite pages.
This ivory & sage green quilt of the Salt Lake Temple & daisies all around, that the sisters in my ward helped me work on, was placed between the two table picture displays.

Here's one of the displaly tables with a green tablecloth covered with a brown sheer one & pink tulle winding around the pictures & computer slideshow of pictures from the wedding that morning. Little lights were spread along the tulle, a vase of daises in the corner & also a scrapbook that Janica had started of their time dating, etc.
This was the main backdrop for the bride & groom, their parents, maid of honor & best man to stand to greet the guests who came to help celebrate this happy occasion. We found some huge pink & white Gerbera daisies to add to the arch & vases on each end.

Since Janica's colors were green, pink & brown, these were used in decorating throughout. The green tablecloth is covered with a sheer brown runner & a pink ribbon down the center, with a pink bow by the heart shaped glass containers with pink lights & glass marbles holding the little pink/white daisies in place, The chairs were tied with brown bows.
This is Seth's Auntie Jan & Uncle Riner Lassig. Auntie Jan is the one who was in charge of everything for the Luncheon & Reception. She did a wonderful job! We give our heartfelt thanks to her.
These are the goldfish bowls that were used on the tables for the luncheon.
After a nice luncheon which started around 2:30-3:00, the cultural hall was transformed somewhat to accommodate for the reception from 7:00-9:00. Tables were moved to provide an area for dancing later. The goldfish centerpieces were changed to pink & white daisies in a glass heart container & balloons were added to give a cozier feeling. The next few pictures will show different tables set up for picture displays, the cake, gifts, food, guestbook, & the backdrop for greeting guests, etc.

Today was a perfect day for a wedding as far as Utah goes. With it being a little overcast, it was actually great for taking pictures. The weather was a bit chilly, but Janica had a fun cape to wear over her wedding dress. The sealing took place around 11:00 a.m. in the Salt Lake Temple & was preformed by Elder W. Craig Zwick of the first quorum of the seventy. He gave some wonderful advice & very touching remarks. The Spirit was in great abundance & we felt as though there were many more there than the about 50 family & friends that were in attendance. It was one of the best weddings that I have attended. Elder Zwick had Janica & Seth come meet with him in his office the Tues. before, so that he could get to know them better. That was quite an amazing 2-3 hrs. that the three of them experienced together! They also said it was also quite interesting to see the amazing network of passageways etc. connecting all the church buildings underground.

There were 15 of us for a fun Thanksgiving night together! (Jay, Janece, Brandon, Veronica, Michael, Jayce, Tami, Aaron, Shanae, Kali, Krew, Nate, Seth, Janica, & Coriann)
The Wood clan came back to my brother's home in Orem that we are taking care of. We ate some pie & played some games, such as 'Catch Phrase'. Good Times! I LOVE MY FAMILY!
Family Ties Are definitely bound by Love. This quilt of Liz's was handed down on the Moody side of the family from a grandmother we believe. We don't know how many greats. I also like the saying that says, "Families are like quilts...lives pieced together, stitched with smiles and tears, colored with memories, and bound by love."
This poem talks about all of the things that we are thankful for. We had all been asked to write down our thoughts about what we were thankful for & slide them in a picture holder frame.
All the while, John has been out practicing his 3 pt. shot and burning off some of his dinner.

I'm sorry I didn't get a picture of the wonderful delicious Thanksgiving feast with turkey & all the trimmings, but we did all get stuffed & here are some of the group relaxing. Jay Wood, Joseph Spencer, Nate Wood, Tami & Shanae Jones, Marie & Will Spencer, & Sherri Tomlinson. This home is John (my nephew) & Liz Moody's in Kaysville, Utah. There were 12 of our Wood family there plus Tami Jones, Aaron's mother. Seth & Janica were with Seth's family & they joined with us later on in Orem. There were 5 in the Tomlinson family, about 6 in the Brent Moody family, 5 in the Romrell family, including Mike's girlfriend, 5 in the Spencer family, & 10 in the John Moody family, including Josh's girlfriend. So I think there were about 44 of us, altogether.

BYU put up a pretty good fight with UCONN in the first half, but UC played with 40 min. of intensity & were so much more skilled & smooth players that we just couldn't keep up with them. Coriann played 18 min. & had 9 points & 4 rebounds, with 4-4 free throw shooting.
On Nov. 25th, #1 ranked UCONN came to play BYU. Here we have Coriann dribbling & being defended by Kalana Greene #32. We had a crowd of over 3100, which is really good for BYU women's games. We were able to have all of our children there, except Nate, & we were able to have our four grandchildren, plus the faithful Tomlinson's, & some great friends such as the Ben & Michele Casper family from our Basin City, WA home, & Milt & Renae Deleeuw from the Orem Cascade 6th ward. I think Janica & Coriann's roommate's, Miranda & Wendy & previous roommate, Jen, & a few of their other friends were also there.

Basketball Trip to Nevada-Reno- Nov. 17-19, 2008

Nevada's Marissa Hammond & Marianne Lombardi after the game was over. It was fun to talk with them a little bit, since I had spent 3 yrs. chaperoning & following them around to tournaments, when Coriann was on the team with them.
Coriann is in the center of this pic. & Marissa #30 with the white headband, is on the left. Marianne Lombardi #32 on the right, also played on 'Sagebrush Hoops' with Coriann & Marissa. The team was from the Tri-Cities in WA & was coached by Mike Hodgins. BYU played very well & we beat Nevada 81-63. In 14 min. time, Coriann had 100% shooting overall with 11 points, 5 rebounds & an assist. Two 3-point shots, were included in the mix. A great game for Coriann!
Jay & I left on Nov. 17th to make the long drive to Reno, Nevada from our home in WA. This pic. above shows Coriann guarding Marissa Hammond #30, who she used to play on the 'Sagebrush Hoops' elite team with, for three years.

Here is Coriann in her first real season game at Portland State, on Fri. Nov. 14th. It was a game that we shouldn't have lost. The score was 64-73. It was so sad at the last seconds of the game, Haley Hall, our best point guard, tore her ACL on her left knee. She has already been out two seasons because of tearing it on her right knee twice. She had played such a great game. Everyone was so distraught about her being out for another season.

Jay & I attended the Provo temple on Nov. 7th- a crisp fall morning. We always find great peace & solace at the temple & we're able to meditate & concentrate on what our priorities should be. We come away with a greater resolve to be more loving & kind & we treat one another better. We also seem to have more patience & tolerance with everyone & are able to have the guidance of the Spirit more prevalent in our everyday lives as we attend each week. What a wonderful blessing! That evening Jay & I went to the new CineMark theater to see "Madagascar II". We were greatly entertained.

Nov. 5th, after starting to help Janica on her wedding announcements, we attended Coriann's 1st exhibition game for the season of basketball, BYU vs. W. Oregon. We won 79-51. In this pic., they are all over Coriann #23, but she's hanging on tough.
We arrived late in the evening in Orem, & we were greeted by snow the next morning, Nov. 4th.

Before Jay & I left for Orem, UT on Nov. 3rd to stay at my brother, Bob Moody's home for the next week, I took a fall picutre in our backyard of Basin City, of our King Crimson Maple tree losing it's leaves.

Nov. 5, 2008-1st Exhibition Game-BYU vs. W. Oregon

On Nov. 5th, after helping Janica most of the day with addressing her wedding announcements (the two photos below), we attended (#23) Coriann's 1st BYU basketball exhibition game vs. W. Oregon. She started off her sophomore year playing 12 min. & won 79-51.

The next day, Nov. 4th, after we arrived in Orem, this is the snow covering the ground at my brother, Bob's home.

A Party With The Hawkins' Family At Our Home-Nov. 1, 2008

The jacuzzi felt ohh so good, after nearly freezing to death. The six Hawkins' kids along with Jay Wood making sure the water wouldn't turn the girl's hair green. I've had that happen before.

Later Alan decided he was up for the polar dip challenge too, to make a total of six.
November 1st we invited the Bart Hawkins' family to our home for a polar dip in our pool (the heater was broken & not only was the water very cold, but it was cold outside, too), playing in the jacuzzi, & other games, along with barbecued hamburgers, chicken, fresh fruit salad, relish tray, brownies, etc. Pictured here are the brave five ready for the polar dip- Jessica, Marci, Aaron in back & Heather & Brian in front.

Earlier in the day, I attended a baby shower for Rachael Empey Cutler who is due with a baby girl the end of January. After that I joined Jay at the mercantile to watch BYU football beat CSU 45-43.

Here we have the Chris & Maria Holst children, who drove the 10 miles from Basin City town to visit us! The boys are Tyrelle, Maeson, Haiden in back, Princess Kiana, & Eastyn on Maria's lap. Brenden, the oldest son, decided he was too old to come this year.
Our neighbors, to the left of us, the Schwendiman's (Kip, Shandiin, & baby Carson? in back, & Preston, Cheyenne, & Braxton in front. They watch after our home & collect our mail, etc. while we are away. A BIG THANKS to them!

I always enjoy decorating & dressing up for Halloween, October 31st. It's really fun for me to see the faithful trick-or treaters that come to our home each year. We had 50 some who came. Above are a few of the families that I took pictures of in front of our home.

It's been so long since I've posted...almost 4 mos.! I'm going to do my best to catch up as best I can with some of the most important events...finishing up in October 2008 & then going month by month, starting with NOVEMBER.

I took a fall picture of our Columbia River WA temple after I attended a session there on October 30th. Jay & I try our best to make it to the temple each week, wherever we may be.

I DID IT! One Stitch At A Time.

Yeh!!! I finished climbing my mountain this week, Wed. Oct. 22nd. But instead of one step at a time, it was one stitch at a time. It took 160 hours of work to finish the quilting. A special thank you to those sisters who donated 33 hours of that time (Judy Rowley, Susan Hawkins, Lana Nielson, Michele Casper, Nancy Nielson, & Barb Winder). All I have left to do is finish machine sewing the binding on the outside edge & wrap it over the edge & hand stitch it on the front, which I will do as we are traveling to Utah next week. That will take some time, but much easier & faster than the hand quilting. These two pictures were taken after I finished the last stitches of the Salt Lake Temple (the temple itself & then the whole quilt spread out). The quilt is ivory on the front & sage green on the back.

Kathleen Nielson (left) is so great at doing our ward bulletin. She previously also kept our ward website up to date & has been a ward family history consultant. She was recently called to be a stake family history consultant. She has had quite the adventures, including working in the White House under three different U.S. Presidents. I am her visiting teacher & Jay is her home teacher. Kaye & Dave had other exciting news to tell us. While we were there they found out that their daughter, Amy, & her family will be moving into their nice home across the road for at least two years (they have six children & we so need more families in our ward) while Dave & Kaye serve a two year mission as directors of the same church history sites they just returned from. They will report back to their mission in January & Glenn & Cheri Warr from our area have just been called to go & serve with them, in their previous calling. I'm looking forward to when Jay & I can serve missions, hopefully some will be in places that our children & grandchildren can come to visit us. We sure had a fun visit with everyone today, including our children & grandchildren that we were able to Skype & talk to.
Here is a picture of Bart, at the head of the table, after he arrived home from doing several setting aparts of church callings. He is 2nd counselor to Bishop Rick Nielson & served as executive secretary to Jay when he was Bishop. Mike Davidson is the other counselor. Jay & I (Janece) are to the left of him. Susan & Heather are to his right.
We just love the Bart & Susan Hawkins family! They have 11 children and are going through withdrawals now that they only have 6 children at home. Susan's parents (who lived across the road) recently moved to their Timber Mt. cabin up by Cle Elum. The move was hastened because Susan's mother, Judy Rowley, broke her leg after falling from a stool while cleaning some cabinets up there. Jay & I are now taking their spots at the dinner table & loving it, but we're feeling a bit guilty about it. Pictured from left are Susan, Aaron, Alan, Marci, Kathleen Nielson, Kaye & Dave Freeman, & Jay Wood. The Hawkins' kids said they felt really privileged to have both of their previous Bishops at the dinner table with them. There were 13 of us altogether. The chicken, mashed potatoes & gravy, stuffing, biscuits, squash, apple slices w/caramel, strawberry salad (which I made), punch & cider were all very delicious.
Here's Jay talking & looking at maps with Dave Freeman (Bishop in our ward before Jay). He & his wife, Kaye, on the right in the background just returned from a six month mission to the Church History Handcart sites in Southern WYO as physical facilities coordinators. They guided tours at the Martin & Willie handcart centers, & helped with treks hiking around a 15 mile area over Rocky Ridge and other areas. Many groups came in the summer to do handcart treks. That is a place I would really like to visit & meet with my children & grandchildren one day. There are ancestors that were in both the Martin & Willie Handcart companies.

South Pass in that area, is where my grandfather, John Franklin Moody, Jr. age 16, about died when it got cold & he was out of provisions as he was traveling by himself on horseback from around St. George, Utah to meet up with his family, who were settling the Big Horn Basin of northern WYO (where I was born). Indians came to his rescue & took him back to their camp & nursed him back to health & gave him provisions to continue his journey. Grandpa was always friends with the Indians after that & tried to help them out. Quite a story, told in more detail by my cousin, Jay Hampton. Grandpa told Jay lots of stories when he was living with Jay's family, when Jay was a boy. Grandpa died when I was three years old & his wife Juditha Maud, died long before I was born. I got to know his 2nd wife, Mary, a little, but she died when I was 8.
Here we have Heather, Jessica, & Brian Hawkins. They all did a great job as they took part in the primary program. Susan, their mother, has been so kind to invite Jay & I to Sunday dinner, when we are at home in WA. We will be gone most of the winter to Utah or traveling to Coriann's BYU basketball games. We are trying to return the favor this week by having a barbecue party & were going to swim, but our pool heater has gone on the fritz. I guess we can have a polar bear swim & then jump in the hot tub.

Today was our Primary Children's Program in our ward. The theme was, "I Am A Child Of God". The children are such 'angels' & always an inspiration to me. (It really made me miss my precious grandchildren). I can't help but get emotional as I watch them sing & say their parts & tell their stories. I wish I could have taken a picture. Some of them even got emotional, themselves. Stephanie Garza & her children were the main little spotlighted family that conversed as narrators between everything else. Their grandma, Barb Winder, who is the first quilter pictured in the blog before this, was really struggling to keep her emotions, when they talked about being a forever family. For those of you who know their family, it's quite a story in how Oscar, the father, came to join the church, & how awesome it was when they were able to get sealed in the temple. Dad/Jay was Bishop & so we were quite involved with the situation & witnessed it come to pass. Oscar also has some amazing, miraculous stories to tell about when he went to war in Afghanistan/Iraq & his life was spared on many occasions.

Walt Lowe does such a great job in teaching our gospel doctrine class. Our class covered 3 Nephi 12-15 "Old Things Are Done Away, And All Things Have Become New". A lot of discussion on the Beatitudes, being the 'salt of the earth', a 'light to all people', & how Jesus fulfilled the law of Moses & taught the higher law & how we can be true disciples. As we were talking about lust, it was so cute how he told us, "I have the answer. When you are constantly confronted with immodest women or the ugliness of the world, the key is to quickly turn your head away & don't look back." Other comments were, to quickly replace thoughts with a scripture or hymn, & I was thinking, "shut it off, if something bad comes on TV or the computer, etc., or quickly leave a place that the spirit of God can not be. We are in control. Satan wants us to think we aren't, but we always have control over him, if we choose to." It also reminded me of a scene in the inspirational movie, "Fireproof" that Dad/Jay & I saw Fri. night. The actor, Caleb, was tempted to click on some porn & knew that if he wanted to save his marriage he was going to have to overcome this temptation, so he grabbed his computer and threw it out the door by the garbage & started beating it to death with a baseball bat.

Then Stephanie Barrow Brook, taught a wonderful lesson in Relief Society, "A Heart Full of Love and Faith: The prophet Joseph Smith's letters to his family." She has had quite a life, herself. Stephanie's husband is not a member & she has a teenage daughter who is in Utah, getting the help she needs to deal with some mental & emotional issues. She pulled out all of the letters that have been written by this daughter to the family & how much they mean to them. She also pulled out some letters written from her own mother, Judy, when she was dying from cancer, when Stephanie was a teenager, & how wonderful it is for her to be able to read them over & over, & how it gives her a boost when the 'going gets tough'. This has given me the encouragement I've needed to try harder to write more e-mails & letters to my children, on a regular basis. We'll see how I do. I know I cherish what letters I have from my parents, children, grandmother & other relatives & friends. Pictures of course are extra wonderful, too.

More Quilting

This is when all of the daisy flowers, buds, leaves & lines had been completed, before focusing on the temple. The ladies that come say it will be just beautiful! I sure hope so.
This was when I was working mostly on the bottom portion of the temple with all the windows & lots of lines which I have now completed. The spires are hard to see here, but I'll post a picture when I finish this coming week. Then I'll just have the binding to cut out & sew all around the outside edge, & then hand stitch it over the edge. I may do the hand stitching while traveling to Utah the first part of November, since I have some table runners & other projects to work on for the wedding too. We'll see how anxious I get to totally finish the quilt before going to Utah.

This past week I've been going like crazy on the temple quilt & had even more women who showed up from the ward to help. About 63 hours were spent on it this week & so 146 hours have now been put into it & the end is in sight, which is extremely exciting! I'm now working on the towers (spires) of the temple which is tedious work with lots of tiny stitches & starting & stopping. It's addictive & hard for me to quit once I get going. So I stay up until midnight or after almost every night. (It is nice to have Sunday to rest & catch up on my blog, etc.) It's so fun to visit with the sisters that come. We get caught up on what's happening in each other's lives, & of course they are all excited about the wedding & want to see pictures of Janica & Seth.

Eric & Lindsay Stevens Koehn Reception

The tables were set up to leave a space in the center of the room for dancing, & other traditions such as throwing the flower bouquet to the eligible single women & the garter to the single men, to see who is supposedly next in line to get married.

Everyone mingling & enjoying the refreshments. Purple and Green were the wedding colors. Lindsay even had an amethyst set in her pretty engagement/wedding ring.

On Oct. 11th, Eric & Lindsay Stevens Koehn were married in the Columbia River Washington Temple. Eric (previously a Mennonite) was baptized about 2 1/2 years ago and became a member of our Basin City LDS 2nd ward, when Jay was still Bishop. Eric & Lindsay live just down the road from us. They are both older and have searched for a companion for many, many years. They first met two years ago through the LDS single adult program, but didn't actually start dating until after they watched conference together at a friend's home, last April. Everyone was extremely thrilled when they heard about their engagement! Eric is a school bus driver in the North Franklin school district & also works for Sage Hill Northwest. Lindsay works as a caregiver for disabled young adults through Tri-Cities Residential Services & she sometimes works as a driver for Dial-A-Ride. We are so very happy for them!

Harvest Festival At Our Country Mercantile

Then on Sat. Oct. 11th, I again met Jay at our Merc & we watched BYU play NMU in Provo & beat them 21-3. They had their 16th straight win and have a 6-0 record & may possibly qualify for a bowl game! They are ranked eight and nine in the polls. I have really been getting into this college football thing. It was also an extremely busy day at our harvest festival, which is a very good deal, & it wasn't even our normally busiest weekend. Here are several more pictures taken inside our store (picture murals of the cable bridge & grape vineyards & fields in the Tri-City area, our deli, homemade icecream & chocolates, gourmet items, other food items, fresh produce & crafts) & around the outside where much of the festivities take place. On Friday, Oct. 3rd I met Jay at our Country Mercantile to watch BYU football play at Utah State & win 34-14. Yeh! Then the Pasco 7th Branch Young Adults came to have a fun night at our harvest festival. Jay & I occasionally attend the branch with our calling as Stake Young Adult Coordinators. It started pouring rain & we eventually had to take down our fun obstacle course castle & frog. They still played on the pyramids & in the mazes, road the wagon to the pumpkin patch, visited our petting zoo and drank hot chocolate as they visited. The missionaries were also there to join in on some of the activity, mostly just talking. Some had to go inside and try out some of our famous chocolates, etc.

Working on Janica & Seth's Wedding Plans

It's been almost two weeks since my last post, so I definitely have some catching up to do. Most of my time has been spent working on Janica & Seth's wedding plans; shopping & gathering daisy flowers & materials for the table decorations, reserving & purchasing other decor for the receptions, learning to grow wheat grass (pictures taken on day four & day nine of growing), gathering addresses for the invitations and working on their temple quilt, which has been a full-time job by itself (84 hrs. have already been spent in 12 days of stitching with the help of some of the women in my ward). The quilt has been very theraputic & it's fun when I have someone to talk to. Otherwise I listen to BYU-TV or other talk CD's as I work. The pictures show the progress from day one when I started Sept. 29th, to day ten, Oct. 8th, & then day twelve, Oct.11th. I took a break on Sat. Oct. 4th to watch both sessions of general conference & then watched both sessions on Sun. Oct. 5th. What a wonderful uplift to listen to so many wonderful words of wisdom of faith, hope & charity, from our beloved prophet, Thomas S. Monson, our Apostles, & other general authorities!! What a great blessing in our lives to have leaders to direct us in this world of turmoil!!!

Trevor Mackay married Whitney Goss, from Rexburg, ID in the Rexburg, ID Temple, on Aug. 22nd. The wedding colors were mainly lime green, pink, & orange with a yellow accent. The flowers were Gerbera daisies. These pictures were taken at the Kent & Cindy Mackay home in Basin City, WA. Refreshments were cheesecake topped with raspberries & whipped cream or Volcano cake & whipped cream. Fresh fruit was also served, along with raspberry soda or water to drink.

Shareena Jones married Paul Moody from Syracuse, UT, on Sept. 19th in the Bountiful, UT Temple. These pictures were taken at the Hyrum & Sharee Jones residence in Basin City, WA. The wedding colors were brown & peach & the flowers were peach roses & white lilies. Refreshments were brownies &/or cake & icecream.
