Here's Nate & Jay walking through some pine-like looking trees.
Jay & Nate up ahead while I'm trying to get a few pictures on our way back. Of course it's always faster heading down the mountain. There's a little video clip below.
Here's hiking through one of the heavier foliage areas.
You can see quite a bit of the town of Laie below next to the ocean. Notice the red dirt.
Jay & I (Janece) dripping with sweat. We're just not used to this tropical humid climate.
Nate & I with our backs toward the ocean & Laie down below.
After hiking about 2 hrs., we decided to take a break here. We were too hot & tired to go further. Jay & Nate with the beautiful mountains in the background.
Janece with her back toward the mountains, somewhere in those mountains are some waterfalls, but we're not going to make it that far today.
We also saw various wild flowers. Here's a beautiful orchid.
We came across some wild cherry trees which were of interest to us, since we have cherry orchards on our farm back in Basin City, WA.
Looking down toward the ocean & Laie as we are still climbing.
Looking up ahead, as we are climbing.
We went through some places that had heavy foilage with a narrow trail & then others that were quite open. We also went through some areas that were quite muddy with that red dirt that doesn't wash out of things very well.
Jay and Nate are looking at a map of the area. Certain places you can't go without a permit.
I believe these are banana trees.
The next couple of pictures I'm not sure what is being grown, but this plant needs poles.
Some signs warning us not to pick the coconuts or we would be shot.
We walked past some farm areas. There's even a tractor & a pickup out in this field.
Janece & Nate starting down the road to make the climb. We made sure we had plenty of water & a few snacks, since it was a hot, humid day.
Here's a little video clip hiking back down the mountain toward the ocean & Laie, Hawaii.
The fern growing out of a dead tree stump.
