This is J.'s birthday party at the Moody's house in Orem, Utah. The first picture shows J.'s new white Nike shoes, (a gift given by our daughters Janica & Coriann), and also a very touching picture of our four grandchildren & a special poem that Brandon & Veronica added to the picture, which reads as follows:
GRANDPA'S HANDS
Grandpa's hands are cracked and calloused,
Rough in every way,
From milking cows and fixing plows,
From stacking bales of hay.
Grandpa's hands are firm and strong,
His grip just like a vise,
From stringing wires and changing tires
In wind and rain and ice.
Yet Grandpa's hands are gentle.
It amazes me so much
That hands so rough and weathered
Could have such a gentle touch.
-John Micklos, Jr.
Seth helped pick out a very funny talking B-day card by Hoops & Yoyo. They are our favorite little characters when it comes to cards.
We also enjoyed German chocolate cake, strawberry cheesecake and icecream with our tradition of adding popcorn to our icecream, which we started when our kids were little. We enjoyed a gospel discussion together and then the girls helped me get our blog started.
After J. & I attended the Cascade 6th Ward in Orem, we had the kids come to Bob & Linda Moody's home (We are watching over my brother's place while they are in Ghana, Africa on a mission, until May. So we make many trips between WA & Utah) and we had turkey, mashed potatoes, green beans, lettuce salad, and fresh fruit salad. We had a little surprise birthday party for J. & he said it was the first time he's ever been surprised! We caught him off guard by having it a few days early.
J. & I (Janece) were in Provo Aug. 29-31 & enjoyed playing with our grandsons Michael & Jayce. Michael loves books & Grandpa bonded with Michael as he enjoyed reading to him.
While we were there, we were able to see the first football game of the season where BYU beat Iowa 41-17. The sun beat down hard on us at the first, but as time went on the weather was more comfortable. Jay & I joined the Cougar club, so we have season tickets in a pretty good spot on the west side of the stadium. We are starting to recognize many of the players numbers quite well & even saw Spencer Hadley from home, suited up as #50, a true freshman linebacker, on second string. It was a fun time for us, although BYU got a little carried away with the fumbles. Besides our grandsons, we were able to visit with Brandon & Veronica, Coriann, Janica & her boyfriend, Seth Ellsworth. We even got to fix lunch for Seth and meet his mother, Annalisa, before the game on Saturday.
